Different Bars in Florida: Unique Experiences Beyond the Typical Drink

If you think all bars in Florida are the same, get ready to be surprised. From hidden tiki spots to tiny places full of character, the Sunshine State is packed with bars that offer much more than just a good drink. Whether you’re looking for a themed experience, unforgettable views, or simply a quirky spot to hang out with friends, here are some different bars in Florida worth checking out.

Kaona Room, Miami

The Smallest Bar in Key West (Key West)

This bar truly lives up to its name — it’s tiny! It’s become an iconic stop along lively Duval Street. It’s the perfect place for a quick drink, a spontaneous chat, and a fun photo that captures the colorful, laid-back spirit of the Keys. Every time I visit Key West, I try to stop by for a quick drink. Last time, I had something with Key Lime… can’t remember exactly what it was, but it was good!

Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto (Disney’s Polynesian Village)

More than a bar, it’s an immersive experience. Inspired by tiki culture and Disney’s classic adventures, every cocktail triggers special effects throughout the place — lights, sounds, even staff interactions that bring the whole space to life. Don’t forget to grab one of their collectible mugs — a fun way to take a little Disney magic home!

The Tipsy Duck Parlor (St. Augustine)

A unique, super cute and cozy spot in the heart of St. Augustine’s historic district. Its décor — with thousands of rubber ducks and colorful lights — creates a cheerful and laid-back vibe. The themed cocktails are as creative as the place itself. When we visited, I had a Rub-a-dub-dub served in a mini bathtub you can take home 🙂 My husband had a beer that also came with a little duck 🙂 It’s definitely worth a visit!

Kaona Room (Miami)

Hidden behind a discreet entrance, this bar is a gem for lovers of classic tiki style. From carved mugs to tropical music and an intimate setting, everything here feels like being transported to a faraway island. If you love exotic rums and vintage vibes, Kaona Room is a must-stop in Miami. Just make sure to book ahead — it’s very popular!

The Florida Room (Pensacola)

A bar with 80s flair and beachy energy. Between neon lights, retro décor, and refreshing cocktails (like their popular handcrafted seltzers), this place feels like a relaxed seaside party. Perfect for anyone looking for a fun, different atmosphere in the Panhandle.

Elbo Room (Ft. Lauderdale)

A true oceanfront classic. This bar, open since 1938, is part of Fort Lauderdale’s history. You can even see what’s happening live through their webcams streaming straight from the bar. It has a cheerful, casual beach vibe that makes it perfect for enjoying an afternoon with an ocean view. Honestly, I’ve never walked by this spot and seen it empty!

From my last time passing through the area.

Suffering Bastard Tiki Bar (Sanford)

A tiki bar full of personality in charming downtown Sanford — ideal if you’re looking for something chill yet stylish. With warm lighting, tropical décor, and perfectly balanced cocktails, it has that “secret spot” feel locals love. Definitely one of our favorites, also because it’s pretty close to where we live. We’ve tried lots of their cocktails and every single one was amazing — super creative with the presentation too. Reservations are a must since it’s a small place. I heard they’ll be moving to a new, larger location in Orlando in 2026… which is great news, except it’ll be farther for us 🙁

Prohibition Kitchen (St. Augustine)

Also in the historic city — if you’re looking for a place with good cocktails, cool décor, and a great vibe after exploring the town, this is a solid choice. Don’t miss the live music! The first time I went, we had lunch and it was great. The second time, we just sat at the bar and enjoyed a beer.

Florida always has something new (and fun) to discover — even when it comes to grabbing a drink. Whether it’s watching the sunset in the Keys, sipping a tropical cocktail in Orlando, or finding a hidden bar in historic St. Augustine, each of these places has its own charm. So next time you plan a getaway, add one of these different bars in Florida to your list and enjoy an experience you’ll definitely want to repeat.

There are plenty more out there! I still have several on my list — even here in Central Florida. And of course, there are many that have closed over the years. For example, there used to be an awesome bar in Orlando filled with vintage arcade games and pinball machines you could play while enjoying a drink — it was incredible. And I know there are a few fun, interesting bars in South Florida too, like one you enter through a laundromat.

Which bar would you visit? Or do you have a favorite that’s not on this list? Tell us about it!
