If you’re looking for a sunny, water-filled escape but want something different from the beach, Mirada Lagoon in San Antonio is a great option. We made the trip from Orlando, leaving early in the morning and returning the same day, and we loved it. Here’s how you can spend a day at Mirada Lagoon and make the most of it.

Mirada Lagoon is a crystal-clear man-made lagoon, perfect for a relaxing day. But you can also add a little adventure if you’d like. You can swim, rent a kayak, try out the inflatable water park, or simply chill under the sun. We rented a beach umbrella with two lounge chairs for the day, which was more than enough for the two of us, although there are larger options available if you’re visiting with a group or family.
MetroLagoons currently has four locations (as of 2025), with two more in the works in Florida—Mirada Lagoon being one of them. From Orlando, it can take 1–2 hours to reach, depending on which one you go to. But they all offer the same energy, fun, and beautiful scenery.

I recommend buying tickets online—not only to secure your spot but also to save a bit compared to on-site prices.
There are also several food options available. We loved that they had food trucks and a little bar you could walk to… although, since it was hot, we decided to get there through the water to try some frozen drinks that were absolutely delicious and super refreshing.

The vibe of the place is relaxed and family-friendly—perfect for disconnecting for a bit and enjoying the water in peace. If you’re near the Tampa area or even Orlando, it’s definitely a getaway worth adding to your itinerary.
