Every time I visit the Florida Keys, I always try to stop by Robbie’s of Islamorada. It’s a must-visit experience in the Keys that blends adventure, great food, nature, and that relaxed vibe that’s so typical of this area. It’s one of those places you see online and think it might be “too touristy,” but once you go… you understand why everyone talks about it.
Robbie’s of Islamorada is located right in the heart of that Key, at Mile Marker 77.5. Super easy to reach if you’re driving from Miami (about 1 hour and 45 minutes) or from Key West (around an hour). It’s the perfect stop on any road trip through the Keys, whether you just want to stretch your legs, take some photos, or spend a few hours — which is usually what happens to me every time I visit.
What makes Robbie’s famous, without a doubt, is the experience of feeding the tarpons. These massive fish literally jump out of the water, and seeing them so close is incredible. I’ll admit, they give me a little scare sometimes because they look like marine dinosaurs. It’s fun, different, and great for pictures. Just keep in mind that some pelicans like to hang around trying to steal the show, so get ready to laugh a bit.
The area has a small pier, local shops, a waterfront restaurant, and that chill atmosphere that makes you want to stay longer. One thing I’ve noticed is that parking fills up quickly, especially during peak hours or weekends. It’s pretty small for the number of people who visit, so if you can arrive early, even better. Sometimes you’ll have to circle around or park a bit farther.
Besides the tarpons, Robbie’s offers several activities like kayaking, paddleboarding, and boat tours to different spots around Islamorada. From here you can take mangrove excursions, go snorkeling, fishing, or enjoy sunset cruises. It’s a great place if you want activities without having to look around elsewhere, because everything is right there.
A visit to Robbie’s is always a mix of adventure and good vibes. Between the tarpons, the beachy atmosphere, the tours, and those classic Florida Keys views, it’s a place I recommend again and again.
