When Florida’s summer starts to feel intense, I’m always looking for new ways to cool off while still enjoying everything this beautiful state has to offer. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to escape the heat and enjoy a different kind of day. Of course, beaches are the first thing that comes to mind—I’ll include a few in this post—but there are also other activities that can make your summer in Florida refreshing and fun. In this list, I’m sharing some of my favorite refreshing spots in Florida, from hidden springs to beaches and surprising water parks, to beat the Summer heat.

The heat in Florida can start as early as late April or May, though it really depends on the area you’re in. Some regions may still feel a bit cooler, especially at night. The farther south you go, the more intense the heat—and it usually comes with high humidity. But if you’re near the coast, a nice sea breeze in the evening can make things more pleasant, perfect for a sunset stroll.

And don’t forget that summer is also hurricane season, so expect frequent rain, especially in the afternoons. Florida weather can be very unpredictable. Here’s a short video I made talking a bit more about the climate.
Ready to cool off? Here are 5 refreshing spots in Florida you’ll love!
Springs
One of the most authentic ways to cool off in Florida is by visiting its natural springs. Less than an hour from Orlando, Kelly Park and Rock Springs are two great options to spend a day surrounded by nature—so get your donut-shaped float ready for tubing down the river. I also love Wekiwa Springs, perfect for a quick getaway with areas to swim and picnic. It’s super close to Orlando and you can also rent a kayak or canoe and paddle down the river.

If you’re looking for something different, Devil’s Den is a unique experience: an underground cave with crystal-clear water and a magical atmosphere.

It’s a good idea to make reservations ahead of time, especially during the summer, as these places fill up quickly. There are many springs to explore in Florida—many close to Orlando—but also others like Wakulla Springs, located south of Tallahassee.
Beaches
Of course, when we think of Florida, the first thing that comes to mind is the beach. And honestly, there’s a wide variety to choose from along both the Gulf Coast and the Atlantic. It’s the perfect place to relax, cool off in the ocean, maybe enjoy a good book under the shade on the sand, or even have a picnic with family and/or friends.

We’re lucky in Florida to have some of the most beautiful beaches in the country. Among my favorites is Fort de Soto, in the Tampa Bay area. I love that I can bring my dogs or enjoy a more relaxed area nearby. Also close by is Pass-A-Grille in St. Pete Beach (main photo in this post), where just steps from the beautiful beach you’ll find several restaurants and bars with a great view and welcoming atmosphere.

Grayton Beach State Park, in the famous 30A area, has turquoise waters and white sand that make every minute of the trip worth it. Also in Florida’s Panhandle, I recommend Miramar Beach, which has a quieter and more laid-back feel.

I can’t forget to mention Vero Beach on the east coast, and Jupiter, known for its clear water and great local vibe. The options are endless, and they’re all fantastic ways to cool off in Florida and enjoy a day or a full beach weekend.

Water Parks
For those who prefer a bit more adrenaline or fun for the whole family, water parks are another great option. While I don’t go to them often, Universal’s Volcano Bay truly impressed me. It has areas to relax and others full of action, making it perfect for every kind of visitor. You can also check out Aquatica in Orlando, Adventure Island in Tampa, or Disney’s water parks, all featuring slides, wave pools, and splash zones for younger kids.

And if you want to combine the natural beauty of a spring with the fun of a water park, don’t miss Weeki Wachee Springs State Park, which offers the best of both worlds. Such a beautiful spot!
Pool for a Day
Another lesser-known option that I highly recommend is using Resort Pass, a platform that allows you to enjoy hotel pools without having to stay overnight. Of course, there’s a fee for the pass, and you can choose between a simple pool day pass or add extras like a cabana. Prices vary depending on the hotel.

Last summer, we used this option to spend the day at Omni at ChampionsGate and the Hilton in Orlando. Both properties have amazing pools, lazy rivers (which we love the most!), and plenty of comfortable spaces to relax for hours. It’s a different and super convenient way to escape the heat—especially if you’re not planning a long trip. We had such a great time spending a few hours at these beautiful hotels, enjoying their pool areas.
A Natural Park
And if you’re looking for a more exclusive experience in Orlando, Discovery Cove is a great alternative. You can swim with tropical fish and stingrays in their reef, float along a lazy river, and enjoy a tropical setting with all the comforts included. It’s a much calmer park, with no crowds, where you can really unwind.

The entrance ticket to Discovery Cove in Orlando is an all-inclusive style experience and offers a full day in a lush tropical setting. With your ticket, you get full access to the park’s artificial beaches, relaxing rivers, swimming lagoons, and snorkeling areas filled with colorful fish and rays. The ticket also includes all the necessary gear, like a snorkel mask, wetsuit or life vest, towels, and lockers. Plus, all meals (breakfast and lunch), snacks, and beverages (including alcoholic drinks for adults) are included throughout the day. Some ticket packages also offer the chance to swim with dolphins or include access to SeaWorld, Aquatica, and Busch Gardens, depending on the option you choose. It’s highly recommended to book in advance since the park limits the number of guests per day to keep the experience more relaxed and exclusive.

We truly enjoyed spending the day in such a beautiful and peaceful place. We fed birds, swam with rays and colorful fish. While the price may be on the higher side, I think it’s totally worth it considering everything that’s included.

Whether you’re diving into a spring, spending the day at the beach, cooling off at a water park, or relaxing poolside at a hotel, there are always plenty of refreshing spots in Florida during the summer. Just pick the one that best matches your style of adventure and get out there and enjoy!
Stay cool out there — don’t forget your water, a slice of watermelon, sunscreen, and your favorite hat!
