If you’re looking for beautiful gardens in Orlando or nearby (when I say nearby -for me:)- talking about 2hrs or less), I have some great news: you don’t have to drive very far to enjoy stunning landscapes, peaceful walking trails, and quiet places where you can disconnect for a few hours.
While Orlando is famous for its theme parks, it is also home to beautiful botanical gardens and parks that offer a completely different experience. Whether you want to go for a walk, take photos, enjoy a picnic, or simply relax, these places are perfect for a half-day or full-day getaway.
Here are some of my favorites, plus 2 I still need to visit.
Harry P. Leu Gardens (Orlando)
If it’s your first time visiting a botanical garden in Central Florida, this one should definitely be at the top of your list.
With more than 50 acres of gardens, you’ll find walking paths surrounded by century-old oak trees, rose gardens, camellias, palm trees, and many other tropical and subtropical plants.
We had the chance to visit during the Christmas season, and it was absolutely beautiful. If you can visit around that time of year, I highly recommend it. Be sure to check their calendar because there’s almost always something fun happening, including seasonal exhibits, workshops, and special events throughout the year.

Mead Botanical Garden (Winter Park)
This is one of those hidden gems that many visitors completely overlook. And the best part? It’s free!
We really enjoyed exploring the trails with our dogs, so yes, it’s dog-friendly as long as your furry friends stay on a leash. The park is peaceful, with small bridges, wetlands, and lots of shade, which is always appreciated during Florida’s hottest months.
We recently visited in July around 2 p.m., and the heat was intense! Definitely bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and maybe even a hat.
There are several walking trails, restrooms, and we even saw people quietly fishing along the water. I’ve also read that there’s a bike path if you’d rather explore on two wheels.
After your visit, take advantage of being just a few minutes from charming downtown Winter Park, one of my favorite downtown areas in Central Florida. It’s the perfect place to grab a coffee, lunch, or dinner.

Bok Tower Gardens (Lake Wales)
While technically not a traditional botanical garden, I think it belongs on every list of Florida’s most beautiful gardens.
Its expansive gardens, peaceful walking trails, the famous Singing Tower, and the views from Iron Mountain make it a truly special place.
You can easily spend several hours exploring at a relaxed pace. The Singing Tower stands more than 200 feet tall and houses one of the most famous carillons in the United States. Sitting under a tree while listening to the relaxing music from the tower is one of the best ways to enjoy the experience.

Cedar Lakes Woods & Gardens (Williston)
This is probably one of the most surprising gardens in Florida. We’ve visited several times, and we never get tired of it. It is simply beautiful!
The gardens were built inside old limestone quarries, creating a landscape unlike anywhere else in the state. You’ll find waterfalls, koi ponds, bridges, sculptures, and lush tropical plants everywhere you look.
It’s also usually a very peaceful place to visit.
If you’re already driving to Williston, make sure to visit Devil’s Den as well. The two attractions are only a few minutes apart and make a perfect day trip.
You can also bring your dog here, as long as they’re on a leash. However, if you plan to visit Devil’s Den afterward, keep in mind that pets are not allowed there.

McKee Botanical Garden (Vero Beach)
Yes, it’s a little farther from Orlando, but trust me… it’s absolutely worth the drive.
McKee Botanical Garden is one of Florida’s best-known botanical gardens, combining nature, art, and architecture in a beautiful setting.
You’ll discover tropical plants, lily ponds, sculptures, and plenty of picture-perfect spots.
After visiting the gardens, spend the rest of the afternoon exploring Vero Beach. It makes for a wonderful day trip.

Sunken Gardens (St. Petersburg)
One of Florida’s oldest botanical gardens, Sunken Gardens has been welcoming visitors for more than 100 years.
This tropical oasis is home to thousands of exotic plants, palm trees, flamingos, and beautiful walking paths.
If you’re already exploring Tampa Bay or St. Petersburg, it’s definitely worth adding to your itinerary. Pair it with a visit to downtown St. Petersburg or spend the afternoon relaxing at St. Pete Beach.
This one, along with the next garden, is still on my own bucket list, so hopefully I’ll get to visit soon!
Kraft Azalea Garden (Winter Park)
Small, free, and offering beautiful lake views, Kraft Azalea Garden isn’t a botanical garden like the others on this list, but it’s one of those hidden places that locals know well while many visitors never discover.
It’s perfect for a short walk, reading a book, or simply enjoying the peaceful scenery. The towering cypress trees create an atmosphere that feels very different from most places in Central Florida.
Tips for Visiting Gardens in Florida
Before you go, here are a few tips that always work well for us:
- Wear comfortable shoes—closed-toe shoes are even better since you’ll probably do a lot of walking.
- Bring plenty of water, especially during spring and summer.
- Sunscreen and insect repellent are always good ideas.
- If you enjoy photography, try to arrive early. The lighting is usually much better, and you’ll find fewer visitors.
- Check the official website before your visit. Many gardens host festivals, temporary exhibits, holiday decorations, or seasonal events throughout the year.

Much More Than Theme Parks
Many people visit Florida thinking only about Disney and Universal, but the state has so many beautiful green spaces waiting to be explored.
These gardens near Orlando are the perfect place to slow down, enjoy nature, and discover another side of Florida. Whether you enjoy walking among colorful flowers, taking photos, having a picnic, or simply breathing in some fresh air, you’re sure to find a garden that becomes one of your favorites.
And who knows… maybe, just like us, you’ll find yourself coming back again and again.
