Although in this sunny state winter is not felt as strong, if snow has fallen but it is not common, the state is decorated and filled with lights in the streets and parks. Beautiful decorations in all cities, activities for the whole family during the nights and fun parties. Florida transforms into a magical destination during Christmas, with a unique mix of festive celebrations and mild weather. If you are planning to spend the holidays in the “Sunshine State”, here are 6 places in Florida not to miss during the Holidays.

St. Augustine – Nights of Lights
Location: about 1h30m south of Jacksonville and about 2h from Orlando.
What is it about?: St. Augustine, America’s oldest city, comes to life during the holidays with its iconic “Nights of Lights” event. This celebration, which lasts from mid-November to the end of January, illuminates the city with millions of white lights that adorn the historic buildings, squares and the boardwalk. Take a carriage ride, enjoy a bay cruise to see the lights from the water, or simply stroll the cobblestone streets taking in the festive atmosphere. Here’s more about this event.
- Arrive early to find parking, as the streets can fill up quickly at night.
Orlando – Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party
Location: Walt Disney World: Magic Kingdom.
What is it about?: I can’t talk about Christmas in Florida without mentioning Disney World. The theme park celebrates Christmas with its famous “Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party” event at Magic Kingdom. Featuring a Christmas parade you won’t see during normal park hours, “snow” on Main Street, to the stunning lighting of Cinderella Castle, this event is a dream come true for families. Admission is different to daytime admission, the party starts from 7pm until midnight, so less waiting at the attractions. You can arrive earlier (5-6pm) or you can buy a regular ticket for the day and spend from morning until midnight in the park. The entrance includes cookies and even hot chocolate along with other typical drinks of the time that are offered at different points.
- Buy your tickets early, as this event sells out quickly. When you arrive at the park they will give you a bracelet that represents that you are part of the celebration, since at 7pm those who entered on the day have to leave the park.
Miami – Santa’s Enchanted Forest
Location: Miami about 30 minutes from Downtown.
What is it about?: Known as the largest Christmas park in the world, Santa’s Enchanted Forest in Miami offers a complete Christmas experience with more than 100 attractions, shows, games, and thousands of sparkling lights. It is an ideal place for families looking for Christmas entertainment with a tropical touch. It’s super famous in South Florida. Lighted trees, music, food… think of a theme park with fun attractions and the theme is Christmas.
- Visit on a weekday to avoid the weekend crowds and be sure to try some of the park’s signature treats like churros and cotton candy.
Key West – Holiday Fest
Location: In Key West, about 3h 45m from Miami by car.
What is it about?: Key West offers a unique Christmas experience with its “Holiday Fest” event. Here, Christmas is celebrated in a Caribbean atmosphere, where illuminated boats parade through the harbor in the “Lighted Boat Parade.” Enjoy outdoor Christmas concerts, visit the holiday-decorated Ernest Hemingway House and Museum, or simply relax on the beach. Here’s the official site of the festival to find out dates and events. Key West in itself is beautiful and very fun, during that time much more beautiful.
- Be sure to book accommodations in advance, as Key West is a popular destination during the holidays.
Palm Beach – Sandi Land
Location: West Palm Beach, about 1h 15m north of Miami.
What is it about?: Every December, West Palm Beach becomes “Sandi Land,” a place where traditional Christmas meets the beach. The main attraction is “Sandi”, the world’s largest sand Christmas tree, which is illuminated with a light show each night. Plus, you can enjoy a Christmas market, a synthetic skating rink, and other festive activities along the boardwalk. Here’s their Facebook page to get to know more about this celebration.
- Visit during the week to enjoy the tree and activities with fewer crowds, and take advantage of the proximity to explore the shops and restaurants of Clematis Street.
Celebration – The Lights on Jeater Bend
Location: A few minutes away from Walt Disney World, about 30 minutes from Downtown Orlando.
What is it about?: Every year, this residential street is transformed into a magical spectacle with lights synchronized to music, projections, special effects and even fake snow. The houses in Jeater Bend participate together to create a festive experience that attracts locals and visitors alike. It’s a free event, perfect for the family to enjoy while strolling around the neighborhood or driving slowly admiring the decorations. Without a doubt, it is a must-see stop for those looking to get into the Christmas spirit in Central Florida. Additionally, the small town of Celebration is a beauty, so don’t hesitate to stop in the downtown area to enjoy dinner, some drinks, visit the shops, or just appreciate the atmosphere among the decor.
- There are always many people, but if you go between Monday and Thursday it will be easier to find where to park and walk calmly. Extra info: the same street also celebrates Halloween with excellent decorations.
