Rainy Days in Orlando: What to Do Indoors Around the Metro Area

Okay… I love my sunny state, but let’s be honest: there are times—especially in summer (and don’t even get me started on hurricane season)—when the rain just doesn’t stop. After so many years living in Central Florida, you get used to it… and you also learn that those rainy days in Orlando doesn’t have to ruin your plans. Here are several options I’ve personally visited or that are totally worth it for those gray, rainy days.

Museums to escape the rain

There are plenty of indoor museums around Orlando that are perfect for these days.

You can start with the Orlando Museum of Art, and right next door you’ll find the Orlando Science Center, which is always a great option for both adults and kids.

You’ll also find more unique and fun spots like Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Orlando or Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition—perfect if you’re looking for something a little different.

And if you’re in the mood for something quieter (and free), head to Winter Garden. There you can visit charming small museums like the Winter Garden Heritage Museum and the Central Florida Railroad Museum. They’re ideal for a short, relaxed visit.

ICON Park: multiple options in one place

If you want several indoor activities in one location, ICON Park is a great choice. Yes, the park itself is outdoors, but it offers plenty of indoor attractions.

You can visit the Museum of Illusions Orlando for fun photos, explore SEA LIFE Orlando Aquarium, or check out Madame Tussauds Orlando. Inside the main building, you’ll also find other attractions, including an arcade area.

If you’re looking for something a little different, try Ripley’s Crazy Golf—definitely not your typical mini golf. It’s fun and perfect for avoiding the rain.

Fun activities with kids (and for the whole family)

Traveling with kids? Then Crayola Experience Orlando is a colorful and super fun option.

Another classic that never fails is WonderWorks Orlando—that famous upside-down house packed with interactive activities.

If you want something more unique, Dezerland Park Orlando has a little bit of everything: car exhibits, games, and indoor experiences that can easily keep you busy for hours.

And for something truly different, try iFLY Orlando and experience skydiving… indoors. (minimum age is 3. Parent/guardian must sign for anyone under 18)

Food halls and tasty stops (perfect for rainy days)

Food halls and indoor markets are a great idea when the weather isn’t cooperating. You can enjoy good food, sit comfortably, and try different options all in one place.

Henry’s Depot

In Sanford, check out Henry’s Depot, located in a former train station with a really cool vibe.

Another option is City Food Hall, a newer spot in Orlando with a variety of food concepts.

I also like Mills Market, if you’re around the Mills 50 area and want something more local and laid-back.

If you’re looking for something more artisanal, East End Market is small but has unique and carefully curated options.

In Winter Garden, Plant Street Market is perfect to combine with a walk around downtown (when the weather allows). You’ll also find a brewery there with great local beers.

Over in Clermont, you can visit Montrose Street Market, which keeps adding interesting food options. And again, if the weather clears up, don’t miss a walk around downtown Clermont, it’s lovely. Just a few steps away, you’ll find Lake Minneola with a beautiful walking path along the water.

Shopping (because yes… it counts too)

Okay… maybe not the most exciting option (at least not always for me), but malls like The Mall at Millenia and The Florida Mall can easily save an entire rainy day.

They’re huge, with tons of stores and restaurants, so you can spend hours there without even noticing.

One very real Florida tip

A lot of times, it can be dark, raining heavily… and an hour later the sun is out like nothing happened.

From experience, rain in Orlando usually hits in the afternoon, so if you can, plan outdoor activities for the morning. And always… always… keep an umbrella or poncho nearby.

If you’ve done something different on a rainy day around Orlando, let me know—I’m always looking for new ideas!
