While in Miami and all of South Florida, you can find so many places to visit and walk around. From beaches, malls, museums, boulevards to go for a walk with beautiful views, natural parks and much more.
But there are also several points that you can visit for a different kind of day, and get away from (perhaps a little) traffic and a routine.
Here I’m gonna tell you about 4 trips that I love to do from Miami, only few hours or minutes away from downtown.
Everglades National Park
Obviously visiting the Everglades is a must. It depends on where you are in South Florida, you can get there in minutes or 1 hour.
There are several activities that you can enjoy. From renting a boat, a tour on an ‘air boat’ or kayaking, riding a bike along one of the many trails, camping, hiking and, of course, seeing the famous alligators. The park is gigantic, so there are plenty of activities for you.
Florida Keys
Okay … maybe it is a long way to get to Key West, although I have done that trip as a day trip leaving early from Miami to Key West, strolling around town, and returning by night. But you can get to Islamorada in less than 2 hours.
On the way you can enjoy a bit of Key Largo and several areas until you reach Islamorada. In this last key, you will find Theater of the Sea, many restaurants with excellent views, tiki bars, small places where you can fish or swim for a while. Places where you can snorkel because of the tranquility of the water and how crystal clear it is.
The truth is that a trip through the Florida Keys will never be a bad idea.
Lion Country Safari (2003 Lion Country Safari Rd, Loxahatchee, FL 33470)
Heading north of Miami, west of West Palm Beach, you can visit this safari.
Here you can enjoy a ride in your car to see zebras, rhinos, giraffes and obviously lions. There are many animals in their environment running freely, so drive with caution because you never know what will be crossing the road.
Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens (4000 Morikami Park Rd, Delray Beach, FL 33446)
In this beautiful Japanese garden you can spend a very relaxed afternoon.
You will not only find beautiful green areas with some small lakes, but also a museum of art and culture of Japan.
It is located in the city of Delray Beach so feel free to visit the beach before or after the gardens.
Of course there are more places to see and visit… but I’ll suggest more in another post. I mean… I’ve done day trips from Miami to a Disney park in Orlando and back by night… so it all depends on your mood and how much are you willing to drive.
