In this new publication we are going on an adventure in Gatorland. Located in Central Florida, Gatorland is more than a theme park; It is an encounter with the wild fauna of the region.
Founded in 1949 by Owen Godwin, Gatorland has grown from a simple alligator farm to an internationally recognized theme park. Their commitment to conservation and education about these fascinating reptiles has been an integral part of their identity for decades. So this makes it the oldest park in Orlando, since it was long before Disney World or Universal Studios. (Extra info: before Gatorland there was Cypress Gardens, which was open from 1936 to 2009, and today is part of Legoland)
Gatorland is located in 14501 S Orange Blossom Trail. Surrounded by lush vegetation, the park offers a unique escape into the world of Florida’s alligators and crocodiles. You will also find nice paths to stroll through the park and other attractions such as Zip Lining.
I’m not much of a zoo visitor and to see alligators I prefer to go to places where I know they are there in their natural habitat, and throughout Florida there are plenty of spots like that. It was my first and I’m sure it was my last time visiting Gatorland. Although the park has nice areas for strolling and other non-animal activities, I understand that the park is dedicated to rescuing alligators, crocodiles, and other animals, which helps them live longer. Not only that, but it also helps us get to know them and learn more about those little animals. So if you are one of those who does not support animals in captivity at all, this point is not for you.
I, curious as I am and prefer to go and get to know a point before judging, was not the best tourist experience I have had, mostly because it is not my style of trip near home. The place may be pleasant for many (there is a reason it has been active for many years) and perhaps if you go with small children who like to learn more about animals, it seems like a good option to me. You will not only see alligators and crocodiles, but also different birds, turtles, even capybaras and wild cats. There are also some shows with the gators, but I preferred not to see them.
